Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 26, 2025
PlugMapper is built to surface reliable electric vehicle charging information without mining personal data. This page outlines what we collect, the services we rely on, and the controls available to you as a visitor.
Information we collect
- Basic request logs: Our hosting provider records standard web logs (IP address, user agent, referring URL) to keep the service reliable. Logs are stored briefly and used for security and troubleshooting only.
- Search queries: When you look up a place or address we forward your query to the Nominatim geocoder; PlugMapper does not store those queries after the request completes.
- Account data: PlugMapper does not offer user accounts, so we do not collect names, email addresses, or passwords.
Analytics
PlugMapper uses Google Analytics 4 ("GA4") to understand how visitors engage with the site and to improve features. GA4 receives information such as page views, referrer URLs, browser and device details, and approximate city-level location. Google processes this data on our behalf under its privacy policies and may combine it with information from other Google services.
GA4 relies on first-party cookies and similar technologies to recognise a browser that has visited the site before. It does not provide us with your exact IP address, but it may derive coarse location or device categories to build aggregate usage metrics. We review these reports to monitor overall traffic patterns and feature adoption.
You can opt out of Google Analytics by disabling cookies in your browser, using a content blocker, or installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or by browsing in private mode.
The site owner may also enable Plausible Analytics via the PLAUSIBLE_DOMAIN environment variable. When active, Plausible collects only aggregated, non-personal metrics and does not use cookies; you can block it with the same tools described above.
Third-party services
- Nominatim (OpenStreetMap): Used for geocoding search submissions. Requests include the search text and the IP address of your browser so Nominatim can respond.
- Map tiles: Depending on configuration we use either MapTiler-hosted tiles (requires a MapTiler API key) or default OpenStreetMap tiles to render the map interface. Tile providers receive standard browser request information.
- TomTom availability: When you open station detail panels we may query TomTom's availability API to display connector status. Requests include station coordinates and identifiers but no personal data.
- Data sources: Station metadata originates from the U.S. Department of Energy's Alternative Fuel Data Center (AFDC) and other public datasets. PlugMapper republishes this information for convenience and accuracy.
Cookies and local storage
PlugMapper does not set tracking cookies. We store minimal preferences in your browser (for example, map style and distance units) so that the interface remembers your choices. You can clear these at any time via your browser settings.
Data retention
Operational logs are retained only as long as necessary to investigate reliability or security issues. Because we do not collect personal account data, there is nothing to delete beyond your own browser storage.
Your choices
- Use browser privacy tools or content blockers to prevent analytics requests.
- Install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or disable cookies if you prefer not to share usage data.
- Clear local storage if you want to remove saved preferences such as recent searches.
- Contact us if you have concerns about data usage or would like additional details.
